As the weather gets crisper and the leaves start to change, the excitement begins to build for one of Lamorinda’s most popular holidays, Halloween. One of the perks of living in a community like ours is the buy-in from homeowners. Whether it’s full-scale decorating or just leaving out a bowl of candy, nearly every house participates in this sweet and spooky tradition.
Because each Lamorinda city feeds multiple elementary schools, children often walk through their own neighborhood earlier in the evening before meeting up with school friends in some of the trick-or-treating hotspots.
We wanted to feature some of the neighborhoods that are known to go all out. These are not ranked in any particular order, nor is it meant as a definitive list (there are some secret pockets you can discover for yourselves)! We do ask, if you travel to a particular neighborhood outside of your own, to be respectful of the local residents. While most people who live in these neighborhoods are aware of their Halloween reputation, no one likes having their driveway blocked or having to pick up trash the next day.
Lafayette
Baywood: Known for full-sized candy bars and over-the-top decor, this gated community at the end of Reliez Valley has been a long-time favorite for trick-or-treaters.
Silver Springs: Shaped like a loop with a few bonus off-shoots, this self-contained pocket of Lafayette is perfect for those seeking to efficiently gather their candy.
Moraga Blvd: With tree-lined streets, this is the quintessential Halloween locale for spooky, family fun in Downtown Lafayette. Great for younger kids because they don’t have to walk as far between houses and decorations.
Burton Valley: Designed as if trick-or-treating was a key feature of the neighborhood, Burton Valley’s rows of ranch houses have been the preferred haunting grounds of costumed children for decades.
Rose Lane: Happy Valley Elementary is seen here on Halloween. Wagons of kids running from house to house for king-size candy!
Moraga
Sanders Ranch: Similar to Baywood, this gated community offers wide, quiet streets with impressive candy options and extensive decorations.
Corliss: This central Moraga neighborhood features sidewalks and is known for its annual haunted house!
Rimer Drive: This flat street is great for those who want to get to a lot of houses on foot to maximize candy per capita!
Orinda
Orinda Downs: This is the place to go for the wide streets jam-packed with trick-or-treaters and also known for king-size candy!
Sleepy Hollow: This neighborhood loves Halloween, with the famed Lombardy gate decorated each year.
Ivy Drive: One of Lamorinda’s first suburban developments, Ivy Drive offers a classic backdrop for family-friendly fun.
We love seeing our clients out trick-or-treating with their kids! Enjoy, and be safe!
